2006 MATC SUMMER TENNIS

Tennis Camps

Junior and Adult tennis lessons are being offered as a cooperative program with the Mankato Athletic Tennis Center (MATC) and community services district 77. Each staff member is trained on the proper methods of general teaching, teaching tennis, and maximizing a student’s potential. Gerard T. Schwarz, Director of Tennis at MATC, has taught at the world renowned Van Der Meer Tennis Academy on Hilton Head Island as well as the Doral Country Club Tennis Center in Miami, Florida. Each member of the MATC staff is certified by Gerard personally to provide the highest level of instruction available and to encourage the player’s enjoyment of the lifetime sport of tennis. Gerard and assistant pro Zach Nordby are certified by the PTR, Professional Tennis Registry, one of the world’s top tennis teaching associations.

 TENNIS CAMPS

MATC has produced some of the top players in the area in the last 6 years, producing over 40 college players, adding numerous strokes and abilities to players’ games. Seven of the last 8 area girls who have gone to state trained at MATC. The top players in both boy’s and girl’s tennis at Mankato East and West have trained at MATC. We’ve had more section and state qualifiers than the rest of the area combined.

We do sprints, use medicine balls, travel and play other teams, drill just as other tennis facilities do, but we also watch videos, learn from the history of the game, talk strategies and what goes into making champions, expand the reach of the students’ game and bring out the champion that is within. We do this with a dedicated pursuit of excellence, a reasoned approach to winning, and losing; and an undying pursuit of improvement.

At MATC, you can do 1 day a week or 4; prices are pro-rated to give you maximum learning for the minimum price. Summer tennis camps are being offered at low-cost rates (you can do the whole summer with us—150 hours—for what one week—and just 30 hours, costs with them). It’s cheaper than day care and a lot more fun.

Players training at MATC are also eligible to play in adult summer leagues for very discounted prices (often $3 for 2-hour league), letting players try out their improved strokes against very good area adult players. It’s another way we get our players ready for the tougher competition beyond the area.

 
JUNIOR TOURNAMENTS

When registering, please indicate age and draws that you are entering (for example, 13 years old would be in the 14 & under draw). Pre-registration required for all events and deadline is 5 days prior to each event. Check in for all events is 8 a.m. unless otherwise noted. Events will take place at Mankato East High School courts.
