May 14 - Mankato -- Mankato East, which started the year 3-2 on the season, fell to Hutchinson in the first round of the section, and lost their 8th in 9 matches.

The year was still a big step forward for the Cougars, who last season had only two wins, both against Albert Lea, who hadn't won a dual match in 5 years.

East won at #2 and #3 singles, with Dave Linder winning in straight sets and Cole Schumacher winning in 3. In doubles, eighth graders Evan Meyer and Jonathan Lee won their first four games, but the experience of the junior and senior Hutchinson players shown through, as they won many deuce games, to win 6-4, 6-0.
