Apr 29 - Owatonna - Waseca lost its first match of the year, falling to Owatonna 5-2. Waseca had chances to win, leading 4-3 after the first sets of all the matches, but couldn't hold on in two of the doubles matches, and Owatonna earned a hard-fought victory.

Sam Conway at #1 and #2 Tyler Kolpin, took care of business early, winning 6-1, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-0 respectively over Brian Laumeyer and Matt Larson. At #3 singles, Owatonna's Nick Rotchall topped Andrew Somers, 6-3, 6-1. At #4 singles, in the battle of the unbeatens, Mike Borget-Poepping of Owatonna topped Pete Swanson, 7-6, 6-2, winning the first set tiebreaker 8-6.

In doubles, Waseca had a chance to pull out the match but let it slip away. At #1, Trent Chesley lost his first match of the year, with he and Colby Swanson winning the first set but then losing handidly the next two. At #2, Shane Milbrath and Spencer Broughten lost to the Matts--Matt Christianson and Matt Olson, winning the first set 6-3, before losing the next two 3-6, 3-6. At #3 doubles, Reid Miller and Colin Oraskovich fell to Tom Rotchall and *** Miller, losing a close 3-6, 4-6 match.

Waseca was 20-6 in doubles before losing all 3 of the doubles against Owatonna. Waseca is now 31-9 in singles.

Waseca travels to Fairmont for an SCC conference match and to Prior Lake on Friday in a non-conference dual meet.
