Eden Prairie 4, Orono 3 (2AA Section Championship)

Eden Prairie squeezed out a 4-3 win over Orono to move onto the Minnesota State team tournament next week.

#2 - AJ Larson/Tyler Kimes (EP) def. Lew Grobe/Bo Massopust (OR) 2-6, 6-3, 6-0
#3 - John Destofrey/Peter Hankey (OR) def. Mike Magnuson/Ryan Lindahl (EP) 6-4, 2-6, 7-5
 

Mankato West saved their best for last, as many of the players played their best matches of the year, falling to state contender Eden Prairie. West had great efforts from Jesse Brauer at #1 singles, falling to state-favorite Nick Edlefson 6-3, 7-6, after leading 5-2 in the second set. Ross Moody came very close at #3 singles, while Joey Meyer played smart tennis at #4 singles to pull out West's only point. In doubles, great points were the norm by West, but they just couldn't put a long enough streak of them for the win. Dan Smith and Luke Royer played their best tennis at #1 doubles, though the score doesn't show it--in their 6-1, 6-3 loss. All the way around, it was a great team effort for West against a very tough Eden Prairie team.

The New Ulm Eagles ending their best season effort, falling short against Orono in the Section 2AA finals. New Ulm's Johns won at #1 and #2 singles--with John Hildebrandt winning at #1 and John Witt winning at #2. Troy Fenske went three sets, but fell 2-6, 6-2, 0-6. John Christensen and Joel Runck also fell just short, falling 4-6, 4-6. It's sad to see the Eagles season end, but they raised alot of eyes this year, and played very exciting tennis all year. Way to go Eagles! The Eagles' John Hildebrandt and Troy Fenske are still in the individual Section 2AA doubles hunt, while John Witt is still in the singles race.
