BRAUER TAKES OVERMACHER

Phil Brauer topped 2-time champion Ted Bartolo in the finals in a closer
than it looks 6-1, 6-2 match. Bauer used heavy topspin to keep Bartolo
from the net and remained calm and composed throughout, playing
great tennis as he had all tournament long. Net play, usually a standout
of Bartolo's game, was kept at bay by the deep and heavy topspin from Brauer.

Mitch Johnson defeated Chris Harsted 6-2, 6-3 for 3rd place.
James Lager
topped Bryan Johnson 6-1, 6-4 for 5th place.
Ryan Fredrickson topped James Overstreet 6-0, 6-3 for the Consolation Championship.
Mike Matzke beat Jonathan Lee, 7-5, 6-3 for 9th place.

OMHL 2008 was a great tournament--with the highest level of players who entered and the
highest achievement levels by area junior players. We're happy with both, especially the juniors,
which is why the tournament was started in the first place. Thanks to the many participants as
well as fans who came out to watch. You all made it a very special tournament. Thank you.

2nd & 3rd Round Results

Most things went to form as the #1, #4, #6, and #7 seeds advanced toward the finals with convincing though often hard-fought matches. #1 seed Ted Bartolo survived a scare to his former Mankato East player John Julian. Chris Harsted had to battle one of the Legends Bob Clark, finally topping him 6-4, 6-4. The final four includes Bartolo vs. Mitch Johnson while Phil Brauer takes on Chris Harsted. Family battles include James Overstreet, vs. his father and OMHL founding father Mike Overstreet. Check the schedules above for more information on the match times.

Junior stars included James Overstreet who came from 2 match points down, 9-7 in the tiebreaker, to win 13-11 in the tiebreak. Karl Peterson pulled off an upsetting, topping Greg Gamman, 6-7 (4), 6-2, (10-7)

1st Round Results

Biggest surprise--#5 seed Ryan Fredrickson lost to Chris Webber. Chris continues
to improve and battled Ryan with some very good tennis--it's too bad these 2 players met
each other in the first round as either one had a good shot of going far in the tournament.

Closest and hardest fought matches included Paul Haugesag, 3-6, 6-2, (7) over
Jim Hatleli, after Hatleli had a very strong first set.

Youngest Bill Leitch topped Norman Dharmarajah in a very close and tough 6-4, 7-6 (1) match.

Schumacher injured off-court--defaults
The #2 seed Cole Schumacher was injured off-court and has had to default, opening up the lower bracket.
