MATC Private Tennis Lessons

MATC juniors are guided by Tennis Director Gerard Schwarz, certified by the USPTR, USPTA, and USTA Sports Medicine tennis teaching organizations. With four 1-year degrees including tennis teaching and coaching, Gerard has taught nationally ranked juniors and adults of all levels including at the famed Van Der Meer Tennis Center at Hilton Head and the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center at the Doral Golf and Tennis Resort in Miami. Gerard has been taught by and with 2 of the best known tennis teachers in the country—Dennis Van Der Meer, Tennis magazine columnist, and Greg Presuto, one of the top children’s tennis teachers. Gerard is assisted by local college players trained the MATC way—fun and result oriented! There are currently 22 players (* see below) that Gerard has trained at MATC who play college tennis. Last year, there were 8 area high school girl #1 players and this year there are 5 boy #1 players who train with Gerard. And the top 4 boys on both Mankato East and Mankato West trained at MATC this last winter. Gerard and staff are here—pushing you to pursue excellence & success—helping you achieve your best.

Gerard has taught 7 of the last 8 girl state qualifiers from Section 2A including 2005’s Ashley Eckstrom of St. James (3 years in a row) and Kate Ostrowski (improving from #3 doubles as a sophomore to #1 singles) of United South Central (USC). Boys’ state consolation finalists from 2AA John Julian and Matt Evans (Mankato East) trained with Gerard in MATC’s top group—Air Force 1.

There are numerous types of lessons including a standard stroke skill building lesson, hitting lesson which lets you just hit against a pro in a competitive environment, doubles lesson which lets you work on your doubles game with a partner, and situational lessons, which puts you in match situations and then lets you get out.
